July is the International Zine Month! I plan to take part in at least some of its activities this year. Last year it was lots of fun and I even made a comic zine about it, called Scissors & Chainsaws. The activities are often little things you can do on your own at home, such as write about your zine on ZineWiki, teach yourself a new zine technique, send a letter to another zinester or visit a zine library. There’s something planned for each day of the month. I hope the programme of this year will be announced soon.
One of the projects that I’m really excited about for this year is the 24 Hour Zine Thing. The idea is to make and finish a complete zine of 24 pages in 24 hours. This means that you think about the content, write, draw and layout all the pages, make at least one copy, and fold and bind/staple your zine within 24 hours. It doesn’t sound easy but I think it will be an interesting and fun challenge. You can choose when you make the zine but it has to be done and finished in the month of July.
If you want to participate in the 24 Hour Zine Thing too, let me know. I’m thinking about making my 24-hour-zine from July 5th Friday afternoon till July 6th Saturday afternoon. But I will confirm the date asap.
