IZM day 11 – International zines day

July 11th is International Zine Day! It’s part of International Zine Month and the “international” today means a focus on zines from all around the world. No borders, no nations!

So let’s “buy, share, or read zines from a country different than your own”. What are you reading? Or which international zine(s) are on your wishlist?

For today I’m reading Fully Sick Chronically Sad, a zine series by Amber is Blue from Australia about depression, medication, suicide, and the ignorant reactions they get by those around them, mental health professionals and strangers. In their zines, Amber draws autobiographical (I assume) cartoons about these issues. The cartoons are often hard – trigger/content warnings are in order – which is to be expected with this subject matter but they also make what Amber is going through understandable for others who read their zines and who will then hopefully be able to relate to what Amber is writing about and learn from it. And even though the subject matter and the things they have to deal with are tough, their cartoons are often still funny. You can also see some of them on their facebook page but do buy their zines as well (or trade)! Find Amber’s zines in their Etsy shop.
