Today is Layne Staley day. It is the birthday of the late singer of Alice in Chains and the city of Seattle officially proclaimed this day as a moment to remember him.
In the past few months I’ve been listening a lot to Alice in Chains, (re)discovering their old songs and their later albums with their new singer William DuVall. They toured Europe a few months ago but I missed this so instead I’ve been devouring all of their music on CD and online. Like when I was discovering Yngwie Malmsteen’s repertoire a year ago, I would like to write about my current music fandom in a zine(s). And this evening, that’s what I intend to spend my time doing, as well as trying to play some of their riffs (which with Yngwie was near impossible…) and hoping they’ll do a European tour soon again, preferably together with Veruca Salt and L7 (dream line-up! 🙂 ).
