Zines about self-care available from ECHO

ZINES ABOUT SELF-CARE:

I love reading zines about self-care and (mental) health. It’s not something that is always easy to talk about but reading and writing such zines can be a way to process your experiences, reach out, find support, and help in your healing . In the mini-reviews that I post on this blog you can find plenty of awesome examples.

Over the past few years I’ve written a few zines myself that deal with self-care and (mental) health. Inside of them, I mostly wrote about small things I do or need for my well-being, but also about tiredness and ageing. I hope to publish more about these subjects in the near future. You can find the zines I’ve made so far listed here:

Do It Yourself Care #1

This mini-zine talks about lots of different self-care practices that work for me (or that I really need) such as resting, listening to loud music, reading comics, etc. I keep it as a reminder for myself and I hope it can be useful for others too.

Do It Yourself Care #2

The second issue of Do it Yourself Care focuses on coping with heat waves. It includes a lot of practical tips and advice (thanks to friends!) to keep cool and practice self-care as well as a heat wave themed playlist. I started making it during the horribly hot summer of a few months ago that was clearly caused by climate change.

Chainsaw Bunny Hates Everyone

This is Chainsaw Bunny‘s own take on self-care. It may sound like an odd title to include in this list but I’ve received a lot of positive responses from readers about this mini-zine, so I would really recommend reading this one. 🙂

Same Heartbeats #8

I first wrote about self-care (before I knew of the word) in #8 of my zine series Same Heartbeats. I listed some things that help to fight depressive moods for me. Maybe some of it can be useful for readers too. Of course there is a lot more you can find in this zine including reports of Ladyfest and a 24 hour event as well as essays about racism and feminism.

Same Heartbeats #10

This 10th anniversary issue of Same Heartbeats talks about ageing and reclaiming old(er) age as well as about a lot of other things including things that can go wrong in copy shops, why I love Brussels, and lots of zine stuff such as The Zine Test. It also includes a special mini-zine about Chainsaw Bunny.

In this 11th issue of the Same Heartbeats zine I wrote about being tired and how it affects me. There are also reports about Take Back the Night and about the local and less local feminist music scene, and a poem about wrinkles.
