International Zine Month 2021 – zine library day

Today is Zine Library Day, part of International Zine Month! Stolen Sharpie Revolution says:

Zine Library Day! Search for a zine library in your area and make plans to go someday or contact them about how to include your zine in their collection.”

For this occasion I’d like to talk about the zine library of the Girls Go BOOM Clubhouse in Ghent (Belgium), the only zine library I’ve visited in the past 1,5 year!

Girls Go BOOM is a feminist collective that focuses on gender, creativity, and music, and is partly based in Belgium and partly in the Netherlands. The Belgian part has a “clubhouse” in Ghent, in the Meubelfabriek building which houses lots of local initiatives including an anarchist/anti-fascist gym, a bike repair workshop, a skatepark, communal gardens, a free shop and food donation project, and other social, cultural, youth-oriented, and community projects. The Clubhouse has space to gather and organise workshops, a rehearsal room, and its own small zine (and book) library.

In the zine library you can find queer and feminist zines by local zinesters including KWIER, Out Loud, Tine is Going Away, and mini-zines by Girls Go BOOM themselves (and zines by yours truly), as well as international zines such as Lady Fuzz and Vinyldyke. A few of them are for sale too in their mini-shop. The books in library collection focus on music and gender, riot grrrl, feminist activism, body image, DIY and crafts, street-art, and zines. Really worth a visit! Check their facebook page for opening hours and events.

I mentioned the Girls Go BOOM library before on this blog when I visited during the opening of their Clubhouse.
