ZineWriMo 2022 part 3 – creative space, zine kits, and metazines

Would you like to know what kind of zine things I did last week? It’s ZineWriMo or Zine Writing Month but I didn’t manage to do much zine writing yet. Still, I’m trying to do a few prompts from the ZineWriMo list each week because I enjoy them…

Zine events in Ghent in September

Come and make or buy some zines in September! If you are in Ghent this month, check out these zine events:

  • This Sunday September 11th I’ll be participating in the Go Local market at Meubelfabriek. I’ll bring my postcards, buttons, (mini)zines and maybe some other things! Sister Ray Zines will share a table with me with her witchy creations.
  • On Saturday September 17th I’m organising another zine-making gathering! All welcome to make zines, do crafts, or just hang out. It take place from 3 pm at the Bijloke park on the picnic benches in between the STAM museum and the Kunstenbibliotheek. Cancelled due to rainy weather!
  • On Saturday September 24th the feminist collective Girls Go BOOM hosts a workshop to make your own mini-zine. This happens at the Meubelfabriek too.

Also, there’s an online zine symposium and zine jam this Friday the 9th and Saturday the 10th with super interesting talks and workshops! Make sure to sign up in advance.

International Zine Month 2021 – work in progress

How’s zine month going for you? I’ve been enjoying myself so far, reading and making zines, and posting about zine stuff on this blog

I’m skipping today’s official International Zine Month prompt, “write a letter or online post about your IZM2021 experience” (see Stolen Sharpie Revolution), because I will summarise my #IZM2021 experience in a later blogpost.

So instead, I’ll give you some glimpses of the zine projects I’m currently working on:

  • Do it Yourself Care #4
  • Confined #3 and 4
  • New buttons

Contributions: drawings I’ve made for other zines and projects

I make a lot of zines on my own but sometimes I contribute to other zines as well. I’m also an illustrator so I regularly make illustrations for a variety of projects. I actually have a blog for my drawings but I don’t keep it up to date very well… So instead I’d like to make a list of recent illustrations here (even if just so I don’t forget).

Here are some zines and other projects I’ve recently made drawings for:

Making a whale zine with Les Voizines

I did a thing! For the first time since lockdown, I participated in an “organised event”. It was outdoors and felt really safe (limited amount of people, space to spread out, alco-gel available, each our own markers/brushes…) and I was happy to be able to do this. Getting creative outside in the sun, with other creative people around, including a friend I hadn’t seen since February last year – it was exactly what I needed. Thank you to the Les Voizines team, De Koer, and the people behind the whale boat for organising it!

The idea was that everyone made giant black and white drawings/pages for the “walvis zine” which will be put together printed later on. We also drew memories of Ghent and its rivers on the map below.

Here are some photos for you to enjoy:
